Don't blink

Hey all,

Just a quick update... I'm signing in from the studio right now, taking a break from laying down master vocals, watching the very brilliantly meticulous producer, David Browning work.

I'm learning what it means to be a professional working in this thing called 'the music business' - instead of 'the music business' being a big, shiny building with a massive gold padlock on the double front doors as I'd imagined it would be, it's actually a quite comfortable, totally satisfying, inspiring, creative space where I can have chips & salsa, play on myspace, and sing for hours on end, complete with mint chocolate chip ice cream and studio children & pets.

I have to remind myself not to miss a thing. This is it. These are my dreams unraveling. It's hard work, at times frustrating & self-deprecating, emotionally draining and beautifully exhausting, but most definitely a labor of love in its purest form.

Don't blink.

I'm up & down

iPod Love: New Thing Now - Shawn Colvin

I'm up & down.

Yesterday I was down in the dumps because I worry that my life has no direction. I worry that I don't exist. I worry that I don't mean anything to anyone.

Today I'm up because I realize just how lucky I am to be loved by the wonderful people who are close to me. And that's not even including the people who write to me, telling me how my music affects them, how they relate to one of my songs, or how a song can pull them through a darker day.

So I give myself a pep talk & a slap in the face every now and again (more often than I'd like to admit), 'how dare you, you stupid, ungrateful girl! There are dying babies in Somalia for God's sake! WTF are you whining about?! Go eat your vegetables.'

Ahh.. I'm warning you. I'm a weirdo. No seriously, I am. I worry that I don't exist when I inhale & thank my lucky stars that I'm alive on the exhale. I scare myself sometimes.

I may get down about things here & there, but I am grateful. I count my blessings every chance I get, because it's not nothing when you have people wanting to make music with you. It's not nothing when a song chooses you as its translator. It's not nothing when I get an email from a stranger saying how a song breaks their heart because it speaks to them directly. It's not nothing. I am not nothing. And I have to remind myself of that on days like yesterday.

I swear I'm looney tunes. I don't know what's wrong with me.

The Green Light Tour - May 2007

Of course, with a new record comes a CD Release Tour! Jen hits the open road with fellow singer/songwriters Todd Sapio and Leslie Sanazaro. Join us on our month-long trek across 22 cities in May. Can't come to a show? No worries! We'll be documenting our travels & posting our videos on YouTube so please subscribe!

We will be supporting our newest releases as well as raising awareness about global warming, a very serious issue that affects us all! Because we will be traveling by car, we will measure our CO2 emissions and to help offset that damage, we will be teaming up with local environmental chapters to plant a tree in every city we stop in, as well as raffle off enviro-prizes to audience members. If you believe in our cause and want to help, find out how on our MySpace tour page!

Feel free to suggest a venue in your area or host a house concert! Info on how to host house concerts can be found here. We are also humbly accepting donations on our The Green Light Tour MySpace Page. Your contribution will be used to purchase enviro-prizes, ..ntrees, gas money, and all else that is necessary to help fund this tour.

Every little bit helps. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Boo on birthdays, I say. I'm getting to be that age where you want to start going backwards. I've finally become one of those women who will lie about their age. It's finally become an insult to be asked how old one is. Now I'll never fulfill my dream of being a tarty pop princess. meh.

On a happier note, I just discovered Jude Law shares my birthday so when we get married, we could kill two birds with one stone.

Today's horoscope:
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Happy Birthday! Patience has never been needed more than now. Your hard work may not pay off instantly but, in the end, you will get what you want. This is still a learning year for you and one of sacrifice, but once you reach that magic point, you will feel the satisfaction that goes along with achievement.

You are coming into your own and the feeling of satisfaction should be yours. Get everything in order and don't even consider the possibility of failure. It's time to start building momentum so you enter the new year in top form.

Hopefully I'm getting better with age, like aged cheese. Here's to an older, wiser 2007!

MySpace meets reality TV. It was bound to happen, right? Great news for you DirecTV folks. They've got a brand-spankin' new series called 'Project MyWorld' where 3 gorgeous ladies trek around the globe meeting their virtual MySpace friends. One is in search for love, another for adventure, and the other for good music. Read more about it on their MySpace page: http://myspace.com/projectmyworld.

The show is airing in 75 different countries. And guess what. They're using my music for their shows! I don't know which songs, how many, or which episodes yet... um, yeeeeahhh, details are on the fuzzy side. So this just means you'll have to tune in every week and send me a message when you hear yours truly singing on your television!

House of Wood goes global. Music to my ears.

Ah yes, the new record... it's chugging along... I'm itching to release something already, but all in good time, my friends. We'd rather release the best record we could possibly make, rather than compromise the work just to meet a deadline. Ah, the luxury of indie labels :-)

I will tell you this, though... after receiving countless emails regarding the release of the new CD, my talented partners-in-crime and I have decided to release a limited edition EP! An appetizer to the main course, if you will. ;-)

Stay tuned...
